How to Clean and Care for Your Amber Jewelry

Baltic Amber needs to be cared for and treasured like any valuable property. Because Baltic Amber is soft and can be brittle because of age, it's most important to be concerned about chemicals and oxidation. Amber Jewelry should not be stored with other jewelry where it can rub against other pieces, especially metals. We recommend that you place your Baltic Amber Jewelry in a soft pouch (flannel and velvet are ideal for this purpose) with a drawstring for closing.

To clean your Amber Jewelry, use a soft flannel cloth dampened with clean lukewarm water. You should dry your Amber very carefully, lightly polish with clear olive oil, and then remove any excess oil and restore the polish with another soft cloth.

Be sure to keep perfume or hairspray and similar chemicals away from your Jewelry and never place your Amber Jewelry in commercial cleaning solutions.

Don't leave the Baltic Amber in direct sunlight. If you take your Amber Necklace or Amber Bracelet off for whatever reason, place it in a soft bag to avoid direct rays.

Avoid extreme temperatures - too hot or too cold can cause damage to the stone.

Remember to be careful when cleaning. Baltic Amber has an approximately Mohs Hardness Value of 2.5, which means it's a very soft gemstone, and can be scratched.
